My background

My background isn’t what you’d expect from a typical LSAT instructor. I was born and raised in Rhode Island, where I developed a lifelong love for seafood, Celtics basketball, and curling up with a good book.

From there I went to the University of Southern California, where I earned a B.A. from the world’s #1 film school, completed a minor in Business Law, and graduated from the Thematic Options Honors Program with a focus on high level academic essay writing.

So… a film degree to an LSAT Instructor? Tell me more.

Sure! After spending nearly a decade as a career writer, I realized I needed a change of pace. Inventing stories was fun, but it was also isolating. I wanted to work with real people every day, rather than sit in my office writing imaginary ones. Thus, I started tutoring high schoolers part time. Originally, I studied the LSAT as a way to expand my tutoring expertise.

I never expected to love the LSAT.

Yet, as many of us know, love strikes in the most unexpected of places. My LSAT crush didn’t happen at first. In fact, I found the test frustrating, difficult, and beyond anxiety-inducing.

Over time, though, as my skills grew, so did my passion. My tutoring experience goes all the way back to high school. I’ve taught the SAT, ACT, Academic Writing, and Math of all kinds. The LSAT was something different. Once I pushed through the frustration I realized… I truly enjoyed this test. (Yes, it’s nerdy. No, I’m not ashamed.)

I love teaching the LSAT.

Being an LSAT instructor combines my skills as a writer—essentially, I’m a professional communicator—with my aptitude for the test. I truly believe that my diverse range of experience allows me to approach the test in a way few other tutors can match.

Even though I’m tutoring full time, I still pursue the passions that keep my life full. I live in Southern California with my partner and our adorable fur baby. I read and write sci-fi in my spare time (I’m particularly fond of N.K. Jemisin, Ted Chiang, and Neil Gaiman), and play far too many video games.

My students tell me that I’m warm, empathetic, and easy to talk to.

I like to pass along these compliments because they’re what I’m proud of, and what I strive for. I want to be your champion. I live for the texts that say, “I beat my dream score!”

So if you think I sound cool, or at least like the kind of person you’d like to learn from, give me a ring. We’ll set up a consultation and see if the fit works.

My philosophy

  • I work hard to communicate in a way that works for you. My television writing background taught me how to write for all audiences: young and old, CBS to Netflix. We’ll find language that feels less like fine print and more like you.

  • If I’m not in a session, you can reach me. Send me your screenshots, your diagram sketches, your bullet point essay outlines. You don’t stop working when our session is done, so I don’t either.

  • Whenever we meet, I want our conversation to be chill, open, and safe. Tutoring doesn’t have to be formal, and it definitely doesn’t have to be intimidating. Learning happens best when we can be vulnerable and ask questions; not when we’re feeling self-conscious.
